BMJ Publishing Group limited - Online Advertising Policies

  • bmj.com and eBMJ Journals' banner ads are posted to deliver a given number of advertisement views (known as 'impressions'). To maximise viewer engagement and increase CTRs ('click thru rates') on banner advertisements it is respectfully suggested that the creative execution should indicate a suitable 'call to action' such as "click here for …".   • Building Better Banners

  • Internet advertising may be subject to the Advertiser appearing during the given period in one, or more of the BMJ print editions. This particularly applies to pharmaceutical company clients who are advised to consult with their advisors on local regulatory requirements.


  • Generally advertisements will be posted on Fridays. Material required for production of the advertisement not received by NOON on the preceding Friday may delay the Client's advertisement appearing on the day required.


  • Before any advertisement can be posted on bmj.com, the BMJ must possess a supporting Purchase Order as detailed below, including billing address, and all other appropriate commercial details. A pro-forma invoice, and pre-payment may be required in certain cases.


  • Advertisers should include specific details on purchase orders for all banner advertising, including: - The date on the Friday that advertising is to go 'live' and be posted online. - The number of advertisement 'page views' the Client wishes to purchase. - Billing address and all relevant contact information

  • The Client, or the Client's agent will be furnished with an acknowledgement once the order has been processed by BMJ.


  • Invoices can be issued on a regular basis in a similar way to that for print journal advertising, or as one off charges for individual projects.


  • Advertisement 'page view' reporting is available from RealMedia™ OpenAdStream™on a regular basis, and may be accessible online via the internet by arrangement.


  • Invoices for email services and production charges will be issued on publication.


  • All advertising is subject to the Publisher's approval.


  • The Advertiser and/or its advertising agency agrees to indemnity and hold harmless the BMJ Publishing Group Limited, and its employees and agents against any liability and costs, including but not limited to reasonable solicitor's fees, incurred in connection with any third party claim arising out of the appearance of the ad. The BMJ Publishing Group Limited reserves the right to remove any ad which is inaccurate, misleading, defamatory, or otherwise violative of the rights of the BMJ Publishing Group Limited or third parties. Publisher shall have the right to hold advertiser and/or its advertising agency liable for such monies as are due and payable to the publisher for advertising, which advertiser or its agency ordered and which advertising was published. Sequential liability clauses will not be accepted.

    Agency commission is 15% for both the UK and Overseas. Subject to withdrawal on accounts not paid within 30 days of settlement due date.

    General Policies

    MasterCard, VISA and American Express accepted.
    Late payment penalty after 60 days is 1.5% per month.

    Rates subject to change upon 60 days notice to advertisers.

    Publisher shall have the right to hold the Advertiser and/or its advertising agency jointly and severally liable for such moneys as are due and payable to the publisher for advertising that the advertiser or its agent ordered and for which advertising has been published.
